Fried Tofu and Shrimp with Oyster Sauce
I believe that Tofu and shrimp are good combination for many dishes, especially Chinese food. Born from Chinese ancestor who migrated to Indonesia, I learnt so many Chinese dishes from my family. And I agree, Chinese foods are so popular around the world. I have been travelling for many countries and every single city that I visited, I could always found little China Town.
This Stir fry tofu and shrimp with oyster sauce is one of my family’s secret recipe and without any hesitate I will share it to you guys. It takes less than 30 minutes to make with using very simple ingredient. No matter you cook it for yourself (like I do when I live abroad) or for your friends and family, this dish will make your tummy happy 🙂

Fried Tofu and Shrimp with Oyster Sauce
Ingredients
- 3 Dry Chili
- 5 cloves Garlic
- 3 cm Ginger approximately around your thumb size
- 4 stalks Green onion
- 1 Onion medium
- 5 tbsp Cooking oil for pan fry the tofu
- 450 gr Tofu
- 250 gr Shrimp
- Salt and Pepper
Oyster Sauce mix
- 2 tbsp Oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp White Pepper
- 1 tsp 5 Chinese Spices
- 1 tbsp Corn Starch
- 100 ml Water
- Salt and Pepper
Instructions
- First we need to chop-chop. Chop dry chili and garlic together into real fined, Slice your ginger in thin julienne, cut your onion into a chunk and cut your green onion into 5 cm long. Set it aside
- Now Let's make our super magical sauce. Simply just mix all the ingredient together. The secret of this sauce is 5 Chinese Spices, it makes this dish so aromatic but if it's difficult for you to find it you could skip it. The taste will still great just without Chinese sensation.
- The Tofu normally comes in block shape, so cut it into small thin rectangle. Next let's seasoning our protein. Just sprinkle some salt and pepper to your shrimp and tofu and if you like it spicy, you could sprinkle some extra chili powder.
- All our ingredient have prepared now it is time to cooking. Heat your pan with some oil in it and pan fry your tofu until it become golden brown on two sides. It will takes about 5 till 7 minutes each. Don't over fry it, we want the tofu become crispy in outside but still juice inside.
- With the same pan and the remaining excess oil from the fried tofu, saute ginger following by red chili and garlic paste until become aromatic and then put the onion, saute for 2 minutes more and then put your shrimp. Once the shrimp are half cooked, put your green onion, fried tofu and pour your magical sauce. Mix it thoroughly until it well combined. Let it simmer about 5 more minutes.
- Look at that beautiful fried tofu and shrimp coated with the sauce, makes my mouth watering already 🙂 Serve it with a bowl of warm rice and enjoy it 🙂
